WIP Wednesday

“WIP” = Work In Progress

A few weeks ago, I started working on this Cloudsfactory Disney Alphabet Sampler for our baby’s nursery. My goal was to do one character a day. As you can imagine, that hasn’t happened – ha! But, I have successfully completed 7 characters. Only 19 more to go! I love these little characters from Cloudsfactory and the mix of old and new Disney characters. The finished cross stitch will fit in perfectly with all the other Disney decor in the nursery. If I ever finish it…

Halloween Witch Cross Stitch Pattern

One of my favorite crafty projects is cross stitching.  For me, it feels like putting together a puzzle – I can focus on little areas at a time and suddenly a picture has appeared!  Though tedious, learning and mastering cross stitch has taught me patience and acceptance of flaws.  You see, I’m an insufferable perfectionist – but with cross stitch, most errors cannot be seen nor detected.  My cross stitches are riddled with errors, but can you tell? No sir.

I decided I wanted to try making my own cross stitch pattern.  I wanted to create a great beginner’s pattern that required minimal materials.  I did a lot of brainstorming and debating and have come up with a few to finally debut!  Meet the first pattern!

Cross Stitch evokes a vintage, old-world aesthetic and what time of year is this most appreciated?  Well, Halloween, of course!

This Halloween Witch Cross Stitch Pattern was inspired by two greats, Shakespeare and Harry Potter.  Does the witch look familiar?  If so, then you’re a huge Potter-head!  She was inspired by The Leaky Cauldron sign.

Again, this is a great beginner’s pattern.  All you need is an 8″x10″ piece of “Sandy” aida {the fabric}, DMC 3371 {the thread}, a needle and some scissors.  Ready to give it shot?

Christmas Countdown Cross Stitch Pillow

Okay – first, can I just say this is the cutest cross stitch?!

After I finished the Halloween Haunted House Cross Stitch, I moved onto this adorable Christmas Advent Calendar by CloudsFactory. I started this pattern in December 2015 and simply never got around to finishing it until now. At first, I thought I would stitch all the borders and attempt to finish a box a night, but it made more sense to dive in where I could and go for it.

Halloween Haunted House Cross Stitch Pillow

The year… 2014.
The project… Haunted House by Cloudsfactory.

One chilly fall evening, I started this adorable counted cross stitch pattern by Cloudsfactory. I separated out all my threads, cut my fabric, and set to work. I wanted to finish it by Halloween. A lofty but what seemed to be an obtainable goal.

I overshot the mark. Like… June 2017 “overshot the mark”.

Thankfully, it’s finally done and the finished product is awesome!

Cross Stitch Thread Jar

img_4755

For the longest time, while cross stitching, I would create a nice little pile of discard threads on my side table that would inevitably get knocked off the table and get lost in my carpet or slide under the couch. Through a cross stitching magazine, I found that many cross-stitchers have a thread jar – literally, an empty jar to gather threads until ready to throw out. So novel and so simple! For the past few months, I’ve used an empty spaghetti sauce jar and it’s been working really well. Until one day, I decided to improve upon it.
